Keep the skate going
The Hockey WorkOut story begins with Gordon “Gordie” France and Mitch Kane in Chicago. Mitch met Gordie in 2004, when Gordie was running the Silver League at Johnny’s IceHouse. When Gordie needed knee replacement surgery, he asked Mitch to keep his skate going while he recovered. Mitch did, giving it the name Gordon’s Hockey WorkOut.
That skate became a community built around hockey, friendship, and the simple joy of getting back on the ice. Dave “Camino” Camins joined Mitch’s skates in 2010, becoming part of the HWO story that connects to our own here in North County San Diego.
In August 2022, David Graves III took over the skate and NOCO HWO from Dave. Today, we carry that spirit forward: keep the skate going, bring people together, and build friendships that last beyond the final whistle.
Gordie called his time on the ice “happy time.” That is a legacy worth keeping alive, every time we lace up.
